ASH Bridge Grant

The ASH Bridge Grant demonstrates the Society’s commitment to enhancing the careers of those who are dedicated to hematology research. The $150,000 yearlong awards are granted to ASH members who applied for an NIH R01 or equivalent. 

New in 2025: ASH Bridge Grant Eligibility Expanded Significantly

In response to the evolving funding landscape for NIH extramural research funding, ASH has made significant changes to expand access and eligibility for the Bridge Grant Program for researchers. Changes include:

  1. Previous recipients are eligible to submit a new grant proposal for funding.
  2. Individuals who had a proposal reviewed but not discussed can now apply under the standard application.
  3. Individuals who submitted a proposal and have not received a critique (for a variety of reasons) are now eligible to apply via a modified application.
  4. The institutional match requirement has been suspended and institutional support for applicants will be assessed via the institutional support letter.
  5. The limit on “other resources” has been increased to $500,000.

Program Benefits
This award provides the recipient with a one-time installment of $150,000 to use for principal investigator (PI) salary and fringe benefits, travel, salary and fringe benefits of research personnel, research supplies, and/or equipment. See Additional Benefit Information
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be an ASH member in good standing, have submitted to the NIH in the past 18 months, be the principal investigator or co-principal investigator, and hold a faculty position at an academic institution or the equivalent position at a non-profit research organization. Application Process and Required Materials
The Bridge Grant application, along with all required supporting documents鈥攊ncluding the application form, budget supplemental form, NIH Biographical Sketch, institutional commitment letter, and more鈥攎ust be submitted through ASH's online awards portal. Evaluation and Selection
All eligible applications will be reviewed by the Bridge Grant study section based on the scientific merit of proposed research and the applicant鈥檚 qualifications. Award recipients will be notified in July. See Evaluation Criteria
